Wet Your Whistle

Wet Whistle Wine Fest is a fundraiser for Community Improvement of Algoma and the Algoma Fire and Rescue. Wet Whistle Wine Fest offers award-winning wines, a grape stomp, hearty sandwiches and live music. Though the organizers don’t ask anyone to show up in costume, expect that many attendees will.

Wet Whistle will run Friday, Sept. 17, 5-9 pm; and Saturday, Sept. 18, 10 am – 6 pm, at von Stiehl Winery, 115 Navarino St. in Algoma. Find out more at vonstiehl.com.

10 Years of Masterful Cheese

Wisconsin Cheese Masters is marking its 10th anniversary with a series of August events. Founded in 2011 by Jim and Katie Pionkoski, the store at 4692 Rainbow Ridge Court in Egg Harbor serves Door County-area visitors and residents, as well as customers nationwide through online sales.

The celebration will kick off Sunday, Aug. 1, 1-4 pm, with a visit from some of the raptor residents of Open Door Bird Sanctuary. Ten percent of the day’s sales will go to the sanctuary.

On Sunday, Aug. 8, Wisconsin Cheese Masters will host Marieke Penterman, an award-winning cheese maker and the owner of Marieke Gouda.

Then Sunday, Aug. 22, will be Welcome Back, Randy Day: the return of Randy Dietjen, the Wisconsin artist who created the store’s spectacular dairy-farm mural in plaster relief that adorns an entire wall of the building.
