BITS & BITES: Picnic Picks

Nothing says “summertime” like a picnic in the park, so grab your blanket, a good book or favorite lawn game, and hit up these establishments to create the perfect Door County picnic.

Zeke’s Village Market

2361 Mill Road in Sister Bay

If you’re headed to the Sister Bay Beach for the day, swing by Zeke’s Village Market first to load up on picnic necessities. Located just across the street from the beach, the newly opened business features an array of grab-and-go options (including boxed charcuterie boards), snacks, beverages, convenience items for those things you swore you packed but actually left at home (ahem – sunscreen and sunglasses), locally made gifts and even picnic blankets.

While you’re there, don’t forget to greet Zeke the golden retriever. He’s the “branch manager” of this dog-friendly business.

McEvoy’s Culinaria

2602 S. Bay Shore Dr. in Sister Bay

In addition to its catering services and coffee shop, McEvoy’s Culinaria offers a robust grab-and-go section featuring hearty options for both breakfast and lunch, as well as an assortment of sandwiches. You can also build your own sandwich at the counter or skip the line all together by ordering ahead online.

It’s lunch and a show when McEvoy’s Culinaria serves up paella.

For heartier fare, follow McEvoy’s on social media to find out where the staff will be cooking up the house specialty paella on location in order to grab some to go. Diners looking for gluten-free and vegan options will be pleasantly surprised by the selection available.

DENN

2050 Cty DK in Sturgeon Bay

Though not your traditional picnic locale, DENN’s family-friendly food truck and flea market event on Sunday, June 12, is sure to satisfy your craving for outdoor dining and unusual shopping finds. Stop by between 10 am and 2 pm to grab lunch from the Steel Belly BBQ Food Truck (open at 11 am), and enjoy a glass of wine from the wine patio. Afterward, take a spin through the artisan store, and let the kids play on the playground.
Then return in two weeks – on Sunday, June 26 – for the flea market and brat fry, 10 am – 3 pm, when brats and beverages will be available on the wine patio.
