Bits & Bites: Food Trucks at Gould and a Food & Wine Nod

Takeout, Food Truck Tuesdays at the Gould

Enjoy a fun twist to dinner and a show at Northern Sky Theater’s Gould Theater, 9058 Cty A in Fish Creek.

In addition to Food Truck Tuesdays – taking place Aug. 2, 16 and 30 and offering fare from Backbone Food Truck – the theater company is also partnering with Door County Cherry Hut and Wild Tomato Pizza to offer Takeout Tuesdays on July 26 and Aug. 9 and 23.

Door County Cherry Hut, 8813 Hwy 42 in Fish Creek, will be offering take-out specials for all ticket holders to those nights’ performances of Dad’s Season Tickets. Call the Cherry Hut at 920.868.4450, and mention that you’re ordering food as part of Northern Sky Theater’s Takeout Tuesday to receive a 10% discount on your order.

Wild Tomato Wood-Fired Pizza and Grille, 4023 Hwy 42 in Fish Creek, will also accept take-out orders (without a discount) in advance of the show. Order online or by phone no later than 2 pm on those days for pickup between 5 pm and 6 pm; then head to the theater to enjoy your dinner outside on its patio.

The Gould Theater is also offering some new, themed concessions during the run of Dad’s Season Tickets, including a charcuterie board, veggie-and-hummus plate, fruit plate, gluten-free cake bombs and a selection of beers from Bridge Up Brewing.

Bea’s Ho-Made Products Highlighted in Food & Wine

Bea’s Ho-Made Products, 763 Hwy 42 in Ellison Bay, received accolades in a recent article published in Food & Wine Magazine showcasing the one thing you must eat in every state.

“There [in Wisconsin], a humble, cinder-block hut is home to Bea’s Ho-Made Products, which has been standing for generations,” the article states. “In a world of shrinking pies, Bea’s sticks up for the old ways, cranking out generous, 10-inch beauties made with hand-rolled, from-scratch, lard-laden crusts.”

An example of the many grassroots businesses that line the peninsula, Bea’s Ho-Made Products began in 1961 as a roadside stand selling cherries. Over the years, the menu of small-batch products grew to include jams, jellies, pickles, baked goods and, of course, pies. Shop hours may vary, so call 920.854.2268 to hear the current hours.

Cheers to a Good Cause: Lautenbach’s Donates to DOOR CANcer

During July, Lautenbach’s Orchard Country, 9197 Hwy 42 in Fish Creek, is donating a portion of its sales of its featured wine, Celebrate; and hard cider, Stone Cold Cherry, to DOOR CANcer, which has assisted cancer patients, survivors and their families through monetary aid since 1977.

Also visit the Lautenbach’s grounds for music, flights and tastings. It’s open Sunday-Wednesday, 9 am – 5 pm, and Thursday-Saturday, 9 am – 6 pm.
