Bits & Bites: Cherry Hut Gives Nod to Nostalgia, Grasse’s New Vibe & MAX Opens Updated Bar

MAX Is Gearing Up for a Food Frenzy

MAX at Maxwelton Braes opened recently with a refreshed bar and outdoor space, and this summer, it will host numerous local chefs and dining opportunities. Expect a weekly fish fry by the Sister Bay Bowl; food-truck visits from Lumberjack’s Taco Shack, Wally’s Weenie Wagon and Great Lakes BBQ; a fish boil by Weborg’s Smoke Shack; jerk chicken from Jamaican Door; and many more.

In addition to these weekly food options at MAX, 7680 Hwy 57 in Baileys Harbor, several bigger summer events will include live music, fundraisers for local charities and community organizations (beginning with local fire departments), and partnering with the Peninsula Pacers to host the Door County Beer Fest.

Catch the New Vibe at Grasse’s

Grasse’s Grill is celebrating its 10th season with a few changes. As it did last year, the restaurant at 10663 N. Bay Shore Dr. in Sister Bay will still offer its menu through online ordering and pickup at its outdoor counter. But new this year will be Twig’s Italian beef sandwich, named for owner Jessica Grasse’s nana; plus a fresh focus on burgers and quick, casual dining.

Refreshed Nostalgia at the Cherry Hut

The Door County Cherry Hut has a new feel this summer. The indoor market at 8813 Hwy 42 in Fish Creek hearkens back to its roots, but it also has new offerings from local purveyors, fresh Elsie Mae’s pies and a private-label selection of goodies such as hot barbeque sauce and jalapeño ketchup.

Enjoy counter-service foods such as Chicago-style hot dogs, blue-corn tacos and rib tips with wine by the glass. Or, try the outdoor bar, which offers six in-house taps featuring Bridge Up brews, plus six guest taps.
