BITS & BITES: Snack Attack!

Calm your cravings with popcorn, ice cream and other nosh-worthy treats

Island Popcorn Barn
789 Main Road on Washington Island
Bringing a new snack option to Washington Island this year, Island Popcorn Barn offers gourmet popcorn that’s handcrafted in small batches and in a variety of flavors, including sweet, salty, spicy and savory options.
Owners Lenny and Erika Sawosko are always dreaming up delicious new recipes, from traditional favorites such as buttery caramel to more inventive flavors such as the Happy Spud loaded baked potato and Blazzen Saddles, which is a blend of hot and cheddar cheese.
Visit islandpopcornbarn.com and follow the shop on social media for updates and new-flavor alerts.

The Vault
12046 Hwy 42 in Ellison Bay
In addition to popcorn, visitors can enjoy another timeless treat – with a fun twist – at The Vault. Mosey up to the self-serve root-beer-float bar, which features different varieties of root beer tapped right from the keg and onto your ice cream. Also enjoy soft-serve ice cream with an abundant array of toppings, plus other sweet treats.
If the weather calls for sunshine, enjoy your snack outdoors in the park-like, dog-friendly yard.

Sara’s Artisan Gelato
4192 Main St. in Fish Creek
On the hottest of summer days, head to Fish Creek for smooth, creamy gelato from Sara’s Artisan Gelato, now open Tuesday-Sunday, 12-9 pm.
The handcrafted, Italian dessert is similar to ice cream, but it’s made with more milk and less cream than traditional ice cream and has less air churned into it, giving it its signature smooth texture. With traditional flavors such as stracciatella, pistachio and chocolate, as well as creative concoctions such as brown butter pecan and Unicorn Cake Batter, you’ll want to visit often to try out the many flavors, which rotate daily.
