“Bitter Seeds” Launches Dinner and a Movie Series

Micha X. Peled

The first film screening in the Green Door Film Society’s 2012-13 season features Bitter Seeds, an award-winning documentary that explores the future of how people grow things and the worldwide debate over industrial agriculture.

India has more farmers than any country in the world, and they are in an unprecedented crisis; an epidemic of farmer suicides has claimed over a quarter million lives. Bitter Seeds raises questions about the human cost of genetically modified agriculture and the future of farmers.

While the subject matter of this film is disturbing, the cinematography and the overall production level are spectacular. Bitter Seeds is the final film in the Globalization Trilogy, a 12-year-long project by director Micha X. Peled, which follows his Store Wars: When Wal-Mart Comes to Town and China Blue.

A free public screening will be held Nov. 1 at Greens N Grains Natural Food Store and Cafe in Egg Harbor, which offers a natural and organic dinner before screenings at 6 pm for $7.50. The film screenings take place bi-weekly at 7 pm.

There is no charge, but seating is limited to 28 people. For reservations call 920.868.9999 or email [email protected].

Greens N Grains Café, located at 7821 Highway 42, is open daily from 9 am – 4 pm, and until 9 pm on movie nights.
