Bjorklunden Hosts Free Concerts

Lawrence University’s Bjِrklunden near Baileys Harbor will host a variety of free concerts sponsored by the Boynton Society.

Sunday, April 24 at 1:30 pm, the public is invited to a concert of collaborative music featuring the sonatas of Johannes Brahms for violin, viola, cello, and clarinet. The recital will be performed by the instrumental and piano students at Lawrence University, following a weekend of coaching by Robert McDonald, who graduated from Lawrence in ’73. He is now a faculty member of the Juilliard School of Music.

Thursday, April 28 at 4:30 pm Bjِrklunden will host a Gamelan concert. Gamelan music is a type of primarily percussion music from Indonesia characterized by fast and intricate rhythmic and melodic patterns. Gamelan Cahaya Asri (Gamelan of Harmonious Light) will perform selections of traditional and contemporary Balinese music, including a masked dance piece.

Sunday, May 1 at 1:30 pm piano students from Tony Padilla’s studio will perform works by Franz Liszt to celebrate the bicentennial of his birth this year.
