Board of Review Extended and Holiday Events

Welcome to the Notes from the Grove, providing Liberty Grove residents and visitors tid bits of information about goings on in town government.

• The Town Board has passed the budget for 2012 following the Budget Hearing and Special Town Meeting on Nov. 16. Seven citizens were present in addition to the board, administrator and treasurer. Please refer to the town website to view the complete budget. The property tax levy was set at $1,595,531.00 which is 7.80 percent less that the 2011 levy.

• The Adjourned Board of Review commenced on Nov. 9. The first revaluation since 2001 resulted in over 300 parcels objecting to their assessment. The Board of Review continued on Nov. 10 and 11. It resumed on Nov. 14, 15, 16 and 17. Each parcel was assigned a number for appearance before the board based on the reception of their Objection Form. The town website was utilized to provide information on a daily basis as to the progress of the reviews. Objectors could follow the progress and estimate when they should be at the Town Hall. A number of scheduled committee meetings were cancelled or postponed due to the continuation of the Board of Review.

• The Town Hall will be closed Nov. 24 and 25 for Thanksgiving. It will also be closed Dec. 23 – 26 for the Christmas Holiday.

• The Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony in Ellison Bay will be held Dec. 4 at 5 pm in the lot across from the Viking Restaurant. A chili supper will follow at the Mink River Basin. The event is sponsored by the Ellison Bay Service Group.

• On behalf of the Town Board, Administration, Committees and Town Crew, I would like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.
