Book Discussion on “My Kind of County”

People will have the opportunity to delve into Door County’s past and present at a book talk by author John Fraser Hart on July 21, 7 pm, at the Sister Bay/Liberty Grove Library. Hart will present a slideshow and talk about his book, My Kind of County:  Door County, Wisconsin.

In the book, Professor Hart includes material about generations of Door County immigrants, farmers, lumbermen and fishermen who have earned their livelihood from the rock, wood, farmland and waters of the Door Peninsula.

The casual reader will find the book easy to read, as the tidbits of information create a desire to read more thoroughly the stories of individuals, livelihoods and places illustrating the differences between “then” and “now.”

As a professor of geography at the University of Minnesota and former president of the Association of American Geographers, John Fraser Hart has enjoyed watching how Door County has continued to change since he began spending his summers in Ephraim in 1953.

The public is welcome and encouraged to attend. Copies of the book are available through the library online catalog at http://www.InfoSoup.org. For more information call Laura at 920.746.7121.
