Book Recommendation: ‘James Herriot’s Treasury for Children’ by James Herriot, read by Jim Dale

Recommended by BETH LOKKEN, Youth Services Librarian, Door County Library

If you’ve recently watched the PBS reboot of All Creatures Great and Small, you need to listen to these eight sweet short stories by James Herriot himself.

This audiobook is subtitled “Warm and Joyful Animal Tales,” and although I loved reading these stories in print form, Jim Dale’s narration makes the stories particularly gentle.

The work is billed as a “Treasury for Children,” but adults who are looking for an animal-themed emotional boost will also enjoy this one very much. At a slight hour and 31 minutes, and broken into roughly 10-minute short stories, it doesn’t require much of a time commitment to enjoy this lovely little treasure.

This audiobook is on the library’s Hoopla app, which means that it’s always available for checkout and downloading onto your device.

In recognition of Audiobook Appreciation Month and Pride Month, recommendations in June will focus on audio titles and books with queer representation.
