Book Recommendation: New Folger Library, Shakespeare

Recommended by LAURA KAYACAN, Adult Services Librarian, Door County Library

This April during National Poetry Month, I recommend my favorite poet of all time, William Shakespeare. Not only did he write a series of remarkable, timeless sonnets, but all of his plays are written at least partly in iambic pentameter or blank verse. Which other poet’s work has been read and performed around the world and adapted into infinite creative variations, including Valley girls, vampires and the world of Star Wars?

Door County Library has a wonderful updated series of his works, the New Folger Library Shakespeare. These books are a pleasure to hold and make reading The Bard’s words understandable with explanatory notes, word definitions, summaries and illustrations.Check out The Tempest, then attend a live Door Shakespeare performance this summer in the gardens of Björklunden!
