Book Recommendation: ‘Where the Sidewalk Ends’ by Shel Silverstein

Recommended by GRACE JOHNSON, Peninsula Pulse staffer and bibliophile

As National Poetry Month comes to end, I can’t help but think back to the poetry that has stuck with me. One collection that always comes to mind is this one by Shel Silverstein.

As a kid, I was mesmerized by the fun and quirky poems, paired with Silverstein’s distinctive line art. His work was always fun and engaging – I would recommend this book (and Silverstein’s other works) for getting your kids started on poetry.

As an adult, I have a new appreciation for Silverstein’s talent and even picked up the 30th-anniversary edition of Where the Sidewalk Ends, which includes 12 new poems. My favorite from the collection is the one for which the book is named, “Where the Sidewalk Ends.”
