Book Signing with Jerry Apps

The Clearing Folk School will host a book signing for celebrated rural historian Jerry Apps, author of nine Wisconsin Historical Society Press books and dozens of other books and articles. Apps will discuss his most recently published novel, The Great Sand Fracas of Ames County.

This free book signing event will take place on Nov. 1 from 4:30 to 6 pm at The Clearing’s Jens Jensen Visitor Center, 12171 Garrett Bay Road, Ellison Bay, following his day-long workshop writing class, “Writing from Your Life.” Many of Jerry’s books, including his most recent release, The Great Sand Fracas of Ames County, are available for purchase in The Clearing’s bookstore and gift shop.

Apps was born and raised on a Wisconsin farm. A former agricultural extension agent, he is a professor emeritus at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. In addition to being the author of dozens of books about rural history and gardening, Apps is also the subject of two nationally aired, public television documentaries based on his boyhood stories, Jerry Apps: A Farm Story and A Farm Winter with Jerry Apps.

Apps received the 2007 Major Achievement Award from the Council for Wisconsin Writers and the 2010 Distinguished Service Award from UW–Madison’s College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. For more information visit theclearing.org, jerryapps.com or call 920.854.4088.
