Oct. 4 should mark the 22nd Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk for Margie Needelman – a 32-year bone marrow transplant survivor – and Jerry Needelman of Sister Bay. But this year, it’s a walk route of participants’ own choosing, so the Needelmans have created a 5K “mini” walk and invite (masked and socially distanced) others to join.
They have raised more than $186,000 since they began doing the walks – their way of paying back and paying forward. Margie still participates in studies and clinical trials to help develop treatments for others.
The route will start and end at the Needelmans’ house, and it will include signs, a banner, shirts, bibs, completion medals, and a snack-and-water stop – as it’s done in Boston.
They’re seeking walk sponsors; call them for details at 920.854.4560. Sponsoring remains the same as in past years: Make checks payable to “Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk”; enter either “Margaret Needelman #1003679” or “Jerold Needelman #1003680” in the information line on the check; and mail the check. All checks will be sent securely to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Jimmy Fund Walk.
