Boys and Girls Club Visits Bargains Unlimited

Children, ages six to 17, spent the afternoon on Dec. 14 holiday shopping for family members at Bargains Unlimited in Sister Bay. This event was part of the “Reason for the Season” partnership between Bargains Unlimited and the Boys and Girls Club of Door County. There were 33 volunteers, including Santa Claus, to help 39 kids choose and wrap their gifts.

“The older kids were mentors,” explains Rachael Van Valkenburg, co-manager of Bargains Unlimited. “It was heartwarming to see the smiles on the faces of the girls and boys. The children choose gifts ranging from jewelry to clothes, tools to golf clubs, and candles to sleeping bags. The golf clubs were a challenge to wrap!”

Julie Davis, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club stated, “We would like to extend a huge thank you to Bargains Unlimited, as well as Babler Bus Services, for opening their doors to the youth of our community. The generosity they have shown in making this happen for our members is extraordinary. They truly made our members’ holiday season much brighter!”

Donations for the event were plentiful: Babler Bus transported the kids to and from Sturgeon Bay; Bargains’ volunteers made cookies; and Piggly Wiggly provided juice boxes, candy canes, chips and bags.

Located at 10560 Applewood Lane in Sister Bay, Bargains Unlimited is the place for finding treasures to benefit the residents and staff of Scandia Village Senior Living Community in Sister Bay.
