Boys Baseball: Vikings Pummel Pioneers

The second game of a Packerland Conference baseball doubleheader suspended by darkness in early April with Gibraltar/Washington Island leading 5-0 after three innings was completed Tuesday when Vikings won at home over Sevastopol, 13-1.

The Pioneers plated their only run in the fourth inning when Tyler Grooters reached base on an error and scored.

Gibraltar/Washington Island limited Sevastopol to five hits from five separate batters. The Vikings’ Brady Kita pitched the final four innings, allowing the run on five hits while striking out four.

The nine Gibraltar/Washington Island hits off of four separate Pioneer pitchers included two apiece from Aaron Brey, Owen Dannhausen and Liam Lindenberg, who combined for 9 RBI. Cameron Munao added a triple.

Up next for the Vikings, who are now 9-4 in the Packerland, is conference doubleheader Friday at NEW Lutheran.

Gibraltar/Washington Island will play a non-conference game Saturday on Washington Island against Clintonville, before resuming a suspended league game Monday night against Kewaunee, which will face the Vikings at Memorial Field in Sturgeon Bay.
