Boys Baseball: Vikings Sweep Blue Devils

Gibraltar/Washington Island’s baseball team swept both games of a Packerland Conference doubleheader it hosted Saturday against Oconto.

The Vikings shut out the Blue Devils in game one, 7-0.

Of Gibraltar’s eight hits, Brady Kita doubled and singled with 2 RBI. Liam Lindenberg added two singles, while Bennett Isaacson-Krueger tripled and drove in a run.

Gibraltar’s winning pitcher, Aaron Brey, worked the first 6 1/3 innings, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out seven. Kita closed out the final two-thirds of an inning, giving up a hit and striking out two.

The Vikings pounded out 12 hits in the second game when they defeated the Blue Devils, 5-4.

The game was tied 4-4 after four innings before Gibraltar/Washington Island scored what turned out to be the winning run in the top of the fifth on a bases-loaded walk by Lindenberg.

Brey doubled with two singles and 2 RBI to lead the Vikings at the plate. Kita doubled and singed, Jaxin Lindgren also doubled, while Issacson-Krueger and Owen Dannhausen added two singles apiece.

Isaacson-Krueger pitched the first six innings to record the victory, allowing the four runs on six hits with a walk and a hit batter while striking out three. Kita tossed the final inning and retired all three batters he faced with one strikeout.

Gibraltar/Washington Island’s conference record stands at 8-4 going into Tuesday’s home league game against Sevastopol. The Vikings then play a conference road doubleheader Friday against NEW Lutheran.
