Last December the Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center (SBVC) announced its banner project for the summer of 2016 and asked area artists to participate. The artists were asked to submit an original painting using the theme “For the Love of Sturgeon Bay.” SBVC selected 25 of the pieces in late February, and those paintings were reproduced on banners that now hang from the city’s downtown light posts. All 25 of the original works are exhibited at local businesses throughout the summer season with raffle tickets available at those locations for purchase of the paintings.
Of the 25 submissions, three were selected for awards for first ($500), second ($300) and third ($200) place. The awards were presented at the Art Fair in Sunset Park over Memorial Day weekend. Rick Brawner won first place.
All paintings will be sold by raffle on Aug. 15. Brawner’s original painting can be seen at the Madison Avenue Market and Wine Store in Sturgeon Bay. Prints of the original painting art available from the artist. For more information about Brawner, visit doorcountyartist.us.
