Breaking the Silence

The Peninsula Pulse has long been the Door Peninsula’s guide to the sounds of summer. Since starting our special Summer Music Preview five years ago, we have seen hundreds of musicians resound the bluffs with a variety of musical stylings, and this year will be no different.

When you talk to touring musicians you’ll hear that the diversity of venues and scene cast by Door County’s beautiful landscape makes playing in Door County extremely memorable. They’ll also say that the generosity and warm welcome of concertgoers makes them want to play here again and again.

Brandi Carlile’s Door County debut sparked awe in the audience from her first moment on stage, a feeling that will be replicated this summer. GrooveSession will be back to give your feet some much-needed exercise, Elephant Revival returns with washboard ready, and JT & the Clouds will be turning venues into backwoods deep-south saloons. Each year brings a new layer of talent from the Peninsula Music Festival orchestra and Birch Creek faculty and students.

The music heard in Door County has even achieved national recognition. Eli Mattson, Door County’s own Piano Man, was runner up on America’s Got Talent in 2008, Jana Nyberg made it to Hollywood in season ten of American Idol, and 1987 Grammy-nominated pat mAcdonald continues to make sparks during Steel Bridge Songfest – an event he co-founded. You’ll find all of these musicians performing throughout Door County this summer, along with local favorites including Katie Dahl, Julian Hagen, Big Mouth, and Ben There Dan That.

Between concerts in the park, open mics and karaoke, performances at churches and galleries, dinner melodies at restaurants, late night bar jams, and even the occasional street show, there will be no shortage of music this summer. If you listen closely you’ll find music everyday of the week and everywhere you go!
