Breastfeeding Week

Door County will celebrate World Breastfeeding Week Aug. 1 – 7. There will be an informational booth at the Farmers Market in Sturgeon Bay on Aug. 2. A final celebration will be held at the United Methodist Church of Sturgeon Bay on Aug. 6 at 10:30 am with games, door prizes for parents and children, cake and a lunch. This celebration is brought to the county by the Door County Breastfeeding Work Group, a collaborative effort of nursing and breastfeeding professionals and advocates from the Door County Public Health Department, Door County WIC, YAPS (Young Adult Parent Support Program), La Leche League, and Ministry Door County Medical Center.

The theme of this year’s World Breastfeeding Week is “Breastfeeding, a Winning Goal for Life.” The goal is to assert the importance of increasing and sustaining the protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding by engaging as many groups and people of various ages as possible on this issue.

A Breastfeeding Support Group meets twice per month in Sturgeon Bay and once per month in Ephraim, fostering supportive relationships between breastfeeding moms while providing lactation education and support. For more information visit doorcountylatch.blogspot.com and worldbreastfeedingweek.org.
