Brew Displays Kosmider’s Black and White Landscapes

“Cloud Rush” by Brett Kosmider.

Brett Kosmider’s large format black and white photographic prints of Door County landscapes are on display at Brew Coffee House in Ellison Bay through the month of February.

Kosmider has been crafting images with cameras, both motion and still, for more than a decade. Formal schooling taught him the “rules” of photography and how to make an ideal photograph, and after many years of following those rules, he realized the freedom of stepping outside of those boundaries to fulfill the vision within himself.

In his artist statement, Kosmider states: “My photography explores the rhythms of nature; its cadence and meter; its many moods and gestures.”

Kosmider grew up within three miles of Lake Michigan near Milwaukee, Wisconsin and spent summers in Door County. Close contact with the wild places of the Door Peninsula led to his deep appreciation of Great Lakes regional culture and its environment.

He says, “I’m drawn to wild places, where wind and waves have sculpted the landscape for thousands of years; places where no signs of civilization can be heard nor seen.”
