Broomball League Seeks Teams

That chill in the air can mean only one thing: Broomball at the Teresa K. Hilander (TKH) Community Ice Rink is just around the corner.

The Northern Door Broomball League is seeking teams for the 2020 season under the lights on the ice in Sister Bay. Rink manager Cody Bolton said league organizers would love to get at least eight teams signed up for play this year.

“We’ve rededicated efforts to improve the rink, ice conditions and organization this off-season,” Bolton said.

If the weather cooperates, Bolton hopes to get the rink open by the Christmas holiday, with the first week of league play likely starting Wednesday, Jan. 1. Every team will play every other team once during the regular season, with the battle for the Hilander Cup held in a playoff tournament to cap the season.

A rink kickoff party and informational session will be held Nov. 16, featuring a bonfire, live music, food and games at the sports complex.

“This rink has meant a lot to this community over the years, and we’d like to take a step toward returning it to a place at the heart of northern Door County winters,” said TKH board member Myles Dannhausen Jr.

Team sponsorships are $400, with fees helping to pay for referees, rental equipment and rink maintenance. Teams must have at least six players, and at least one male and one female must be on the ice at all times.

Board advertising is available for businesses without a team. Organizers are also hiring staff, referees and additional help for the season. Stay up to date on the Teresa K. Hilander Community Ice Rink on Facebook, or email [email protected].
