Kewaunee County’s Bruemmer Park Zoo will have a new attraction come spring: life-size statues of an elephant, lion, rhinoceros and zebra.
Steve Bruemmer – grandson of Leo Bruemmer and great-nephew of Otto Bruemmer, sons of Kewaunee County Judge Louis Bruemmer, for whom the park was named in 1930 – has donated $20,000 to purchase the statues.
Depending on the weather, the statues should be installed by April in the green space where the giant metal “Melvin” giraffe sculpture resides. Donor Mike Remme created “Melvin,” which was installed in 2018.
The Zoological Society of Kewaunee County continues to raise funds for its master plan, which includes a pheasant exhibit and environmental education center. To donate or volunteer, visit bruemmerparkzoo.com.
