Brussels Church Gets Renovated and a New Music Leader

Along with opening the newly renovated Catholic church in Brussels, St. Francis and St. Mary Parish is also going through a “passing of the colors.” For more than 60 years, the Kinnard family has led the music in the choir loft, and a recent change continues that tradition.

Monica Kinnard began leading the music for the parish of St. Francis in the 1950s and continued for more than 30 years. By the early 1990s, her youngest daughter, Mary Spude (Vandenhouten), began playing and directing. Although she still coordinates many functions and will continue to be a leader, she’s passing music duties to her son, Lee Spude, a self-taught pianist. All are welcome to hear the ministry of music at the newly renovated St. Francis and St. Mary Catholic Church, 9716 Cemetery Road in Brussels.
