Build a Kestrel Nesting Box at The Ridges

The American Kestrel is the smallest and most common falcon found in North America. Despite the fact that it can thrive in a variety of habitats, the species is in decline. Fortunately, unlike its larger cousins, this beautiful little bird nests in cavities like tree holes and will also use artificial nest boxes.

Many of the habitats that cover the Door Peninsula are ideal for nesting kestrels and a nesting box is a fantastic way to encourage the local population. Learn how to build your own nest box and pick up a few helpful hints on placement during The Ridges Sanctuary’s Kestrel Nest Box Workshop on April 16 at 2 pm.

Workshop fees are $25/adult for Ridges members, $30/adult for the general public and $10 for children under 18 and include material for one kit. Additional kits are available for $20 each. Meet at The Ridges Cabins, 8288 County Q in Baileys Harbor. Space is limited and advance registration is required. For more information or to register, visit RidgesSanctuary.org or call 920.839.2802.
