• Kathryn Krauss of Lasee Upholstering & Marine Canvas in Sturgeon Bay is the winner of a $1,000 cash award for the best business plan originating from the NxLevel Entrepreneurial Training course conducted earlier this year and sponsored by the Door County Economic Development Corporation and the UW-Green Bay Small Business Development Center. In addition to the $1,000 cash prize sponsored by Associated Bank, Baylake Bank and Citzens Bank, Krauss will also receive a radio advertising package for her business from Door County’s newest radio station, FM106.9 The Lodge.

Lasee Upholstering & Marine Canvas, currently located at 87 West Maple Street in Sturgeon Bay, was founded in 1951. The family-owned business provides clients high-quality marine canvas fabrication and household upholstering services in a professional environment.

Eli Mattson, runner up in last summer’s America’s Got Talent and a Door County local, is happy to announce that Gillie Crowder will be representing him as manager. Crowder has extensive experience in the music industry working with the Rolling Stones, Shania Twain, and others. Her first task is to put together a management team including a booking agent, producer and financial advisor. Watch for a shiney new Eli Mattson Web site, http://www.elimattson.com, in the next month and new releases of his original music on MySpace and his Web site, with an album coming out early next year.

Meanwhile, Mattson is the Cellcom spokesperson for 2009, appearing in the company’s TV commercials on local channels. Mattson will also perform at Third Avenue Playhouse on Sept. 25 in a concert sponsored by Cellcom.

The Door County Economic Development Corporation (DCEDC) and the UW-Green Bay Small Business Development Center will be offering free, one-on-one business counseling sessions on Thursday, July 30, 9 am – 5 pm, for all business owners in Door County. Chuck Brys, Business Counselor for the Small Business Development Center, will be providing advice on business planning, financing and other issues. Individual, confidential sessions will be held at the Door County Business Development Center, 185 East Walnut Street, Sturgeon Bay.
