Ensign Alexander Steward, originally of Duluth, Minn., and Bosun’s Mate Justin Neeper, of Du Bois, Penn., are ready to give tours of the U.S. Coast Guard cutter “Mobile Bay.”

The Rotary Club of Sturgeon Bay presents the 22nd annual Sturgeon Bay Shipyard Tours on May 2, 9 am – 2 pm. On this day, people are invited to experience an insider’s view of the shipbuilding industry in Sturgeon Bay. For more than a century this industry has been critical to Door County’s economy. The shipbuilders of Sturgeon Bay have designed, built and repaired vessels – commercial, military and pleasure craft – that have traveled to ports around the globe.

Centerpointe Yacht Services and Bay Shipbuilding, both located on 1st Avenue, will open their doors to the public for this annual event. Start the tour at either of these facilities and see the efforts of many professionals who work in Door County’s ship repair and construction businesses first hand. Guided walking tours are offered at both locations.

Tickets will be available at both shipyard entry gates on the day of the event and will be available for purchase prior to the event at both the Door County Maritime Museum and the Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center. Ticket prices are $12 per adult and $6 for students ages 11-17. Guests aged ten and under are free.

Back by popular demand, this year the Sturgeon Bay Rotary Club has arranged for the 140-foot USCG cutter Mobile Bay to be open for guided tours free of charge at the Graham Park dock. The Emergency Rescue boat from the Canal Station and the Sturgeon Bay Police Boat will be on location for tours.

With purchase of a Shipyard Tour ticket, attendees are eligible to receive 50 percent off on the admission to the Door County Maritime Museum. This also includes access to the restored tug, John Purves.
