Call for “Pesto Festo” Submissions

The Door County Master Gardener Volunteers seek chefs willing to share their most inventive and tastiest pesto recipes. During “Pesto Festo,” a part of “The Taste of the Garden Door” on Saturday, September 11, entries will be taste-tested by a panel of judges. The recipes will be published as an attachment to the October Door County Master Gardeners Newsletter and available online. Awards include “Most Savory,” “Most Creative,” and “People’s Choice.”

There are no rules governing recipe ingredients and chefs may enter more than one pesto creation. Each submission must come with a recipe and contact information. Upon delivery of the pesto sample, entrants will be asked to provide a title for each pesto, the main ingredients and how or on what the pesto might be used. Pesto entries of at least two and one half cups are to be delivered to the educational classroom at the UW Peninsular Experiment Station between 10:30 – 11:30 am on September 11. For more information call Barbara and Doug Henderson at 920.743.9026.

“Pesto Festo” activities will take place from 1 – 3:30 pm. General hours of “The Taste of the Garden Door” are 1 – 4 pm. Included in the day’s activities is leaf pressing demonstrations, lectures, music, and taste samples. All activities are free and open to the public. The station is located just north of Sturgeon Bay on Highway 42.
