Calling All Amateur and Experienced Ice Sculptors

Last year, the People’s Choice Award for the Fire & Ice contest was awarded to Walt Ash for his carving of a dragon.

The Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center is still looking for carvers to sculpt blocks of ice at the upcoming Fire & Ice Festival on Feb. 16. There will be 18 blocks of ice this year to adorn the city in glistening artistry.

Interested artists/sculptors would be expected to design and carve a piece of art by turning a block of ice into a potential award-winning creation. Carving begins at 8:30 am and judges will begin reviewing the work at 2 pm. Cash prizes will be awarded in three classes: Beginners (top two) – $50 and $25; Intermediate (top three) – $100, $75 and $50; Advanced (top three) – $125, $100, and $75.

There will also be a People’s Choice award with voting by the general public.
