Calling All Writers and Photographers!

The Peninsula Pulse is again calling for poetry, prose, and photography submissions for their annual Hal Grutzmacher Writers’ Exposé and Annual Photography Jubilee. The contests attempt to capture the spirit of the late Hal Grutzmacher, a professor and Door County bookstore owner, by offering commentary and encouragement to promising writers and photographers. Entrants are eligible for cash rewards and other prizes, as well as the opportunity to have their work published in the August 7, 2009 special Literary Issue of the Pulse.

The deadline for all submissions is July 3, 2009. All entries should be accompanied by a cover letter, including the entrant’s name, address, phone number, email address, and a 25 – 50 word biography. The Peninsula Pulse employs a blind judging process, therefore the entrant’s names should not appear on the actual piece of work.

Previously published works will not be considered, and all writing submissions should be submitted digitally, either via email or on disk. Prose should be double-spaced, in 12-point font, less than 2,000 words, and is limited to three submissions per person. (Note:  prose submissions may be subject to minor editing and formatting before printing.) Poetry entries are also limited to three submissions per person. Poetry submissions are preferred as Microsoft Word or .rtf files attached to an email (or on disk) with only one poem per page.

Photography submissions should be submitted as prints. Participants should feel free to submit images captured with a digital camera, however, please print a photograph that is between 4”x6” and 8”x12”. Photography submissions are limited to five per person, and the prints will not be returned.
