What is the biggest challenge facing the municipality and how would you address it?

The Village of Forestville’s biggest issue has to do with maintaining roadways. Drainage issues are a result of poor decisions of the past to the point that ditches and drainage ways were blocked and filled in. In my first term on the Village Board we had old ordinances and I was not sure the ordinance was always followed. Board members seemed to believe they were the final judge and at times not all due process may have been followed.

The Board updated the old ordinances and had public input and feedback and was adopted under my term as President. We completed a Waste Water Treatment Plant update that was required by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and in order to fund such a project we had to get assistance. With that assistance a change in that facilities accounting came and required increased fees. I know there are many property issues but maintaining costs and fees at the lowest possible levels will also help make our Village an affordable place to live.

If the board were forced to make budget cuts, what would be the first thing to go?

The Village of Forestville is one municipality that has term limits.  Past Board members did not believe there were many people willing to take a seat on this Board so if cuts need to be made maybe the size of the Board is where a cut should be made. Forestville did complete the year 2012 with a surplus though, and I take the budgeting process as part of the plan on what our municipality can do.  The last two years there has been give and take in the Village of Forestville while being challenged by a former board member that continues to be on the Village payroll and meddling in Village Business.

What do you see as the board’s duty to the residents and businesses in the municipality?

The Board’s duty is to serve the people. Safety and security is an easily seen difference between I and my challenger. The street light issue was one that seemed again to have kind of gotten personal and we will see if we have excess moneys or a way to give some people back the sense of safety and security they lost while Mr. Miller was part of the Board. Again street lights can be seen as a roadway issue and of course our roadways are something our constituents use every day.

I want the Village Board to be proactive. We can’t continue to just being reactive to what happened in the last month but looking forward with a plan. Finally to promote our quaint home to be seen of as a place that when people come through get a wow factor as a safe, friendly and proactive place they want to be.
