CANDLELIGHT SKI AT CROSSROADS

Crossroads at Big Creek will kick off Fire & Ice weekend on Feb. 18 with a Candlelight Ski, 6-8 pm. (If there’s not enough snow, it will be a Candlelight Hike instead.) Ski equipment will be available to rent, or take your own. Attendees can enjoy a roaring fire and hot cocoa during the event.

The celebration will continue Feb. 19 with an ice-harvest demonstration held in front of the Collins Learning Center,1:30-3:30 pm. Mike Madden and his colleagues will revisit the Sturgeon Bay ice harvest using authentic period tools to show how ice was cut. Kids may even get a chance to move ice like the ice cutters of yore.

The Door County Mental Health Focus Group is hosting Chill Out in Nature at Crossroads on Feb. 20, 12:30-3:30 pm. The event includes a scavenger hunt, snow volcanoes, warm beverages and s’mores at the campfire. Skis and snowshoes will be available while supplies last. Jane Burress, a certified forest-therapy guide, will lead a slow, guided walk in nature.

Masks are recommended inside buildings at Crossroads at Big Creek, 2041 Michigan St. in Sturgeon Bay.
