Canvases for 2010 Community Mosaic Project Now Available

The Hardy Gallery is excited to announce that canvases are now available for the 2010 Community Mosaic Project, an innovative community art project involving the creation of 300-plus small works of art in nearly every medium imaginable.

Canvases are available for pick-up at the Artists Guild, LLC, located at 117 N. Third Avenue, Sturgeon Bay during normal business hours, which are Monday through Saturday, 9 am – 6 pm, and Sunday, 11 am – 4 pm. As the Presenting Sponsor of the 2010 Community Mosaic Project, the Artists Guild, LLC, is Door County’s source for fine art supplies and custom framing, striving to meet the needs of both recreational and professional artists.

In addition to the Artists Guild, canvases will also be available in late April at both the Hardy Gallery Office, located in the Ephraim Historical Foundation Svalhus (the Svalhus is a small log cabin that is located adjacent to the Foundation at 3065 Anderson Lane, Ephraim), and at Mill Road Gallery, located at 2328 Mill Road in Sister Bay. The Hardy Gallery will be open 9 am – 5 pm, Monday through Friday.

Created by the non-profit Hardy Gallery in 2008, the Community Mosaic Project is a community outreach project as well as a fundraiser and was developed as a means to help raise awareness of the arts and to make them accessible for every member of our community. The display, hung in tandem with the annual Collection Invitational Exhibition, consists of a large-scale mosaic constructed of 300-plus 6-inch by 6-inch canvases. The Hardy will provide interested individuals with one 6-inch by 6-inch blank canvas to create a work of art. There are no restrictions regarding subject matter or the kinds of materials one can use to make the art, except that it must be appropriate for display at the gallery, created using the canvas supplied and must not exceed the 6-inch by 6-inch dimension.

In addition, participants are asked to complete an Artist Statement Form that will accompany the finished piece. A Participation Agreement must also be filled out prior to receiving a canvas for the project. Participation Agreements are available at the Artists Guild, Hardy Gallery office and the Mill Road Gallery.
