The UU Gallery showcases artist Barbara Lee Shakal through April.
Shakal finds inspiration on morning walks along the beach and hiking trails of Whitefish Dunes State Park and Cave Point County Park, where she absorbs the rich colors of the ever-changing sky at sunrise and the textures of swiftly moving cloud formations. Pastels offer the opportunity to capture the early morning light and saturated colors of the fields, trees, water and sky that nourish her spirit on a daily basis.
Shakal received a Bachelor of Science and a degree in Art Education from the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay. After a brief teaching career in Coral Gables, Florida, she returned to Green Bay and started Wisconsin Arts Gallery and Framing in 1988. In addition to making art, she serves as curator for more than 50 nationally-known artists and designs custom frames. Her work is in several private and public collections in Wisconsin.
The UU Gallery is free and open to the public. It is located at 10341 Hwy 42 in north Ephraim. Hours are 1-3 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and on Sunday mornings from 11 am until noon. For more information call 920.854.7559.
