Celebrate Pesto Festo with the DCMG

This handcrafted white cedar planter is up for auction at The Taste of The Garden Door/Pesto Festo on Sept. 8. The planter can be previewed in Ace Hardware’s display window in Sturgeon Bay.

Celebrate Pesto Festo at The Taste of the Garden Door on Sept. 8 from 1 – 4 pm. The festival takes place at the UW Peninsular Research Station in Sturgeon Bay and is free and open to the public.

Door County Master Gardener volunteers are looking for chefs willing to share their most inventive and tastiest pesto recipes. Entries are taste-tested and awards are presented for “Most Savory Pesto,” “Most Creative,” and for “Peoples’ Choice.”

There are no rules governing recipe ingredients; arugula, parsley, mint and rosemary are as welcome as basil for the “taste base” of pesto entries. Chefs may enter more than one pesto creation. Pesto entries of at least three (3) cups (in a disposable container) are to be delivered to the educational classroom at the UW Peninsular Agricultural Research Station from 10 – 11 am on Sept. 8. For more entry information call Char Rowe (920.743.5771) or Barbara and Doug Henderson (920.743.9026).

Also included in The Taste of the Garden Door are various tasting activities and garden demonstrations.

Briggsville Gardens, Door County Coffee & Tea Co., Cornucopia Kitchen Store, Maas Floral & Greenhouse, Madison Avenue Wine Shop & Door County Olive Oil Company, Sunnypiont Gardens & Gift Shop, Wisconsin Cheese Masters, and Steep Creek Farm, LLC sponsor the event.
