To join what could be declared Tall Ships Month on the bay of Green Bay, the Egg Harbor Library will host Celebrate Schooners, an evening of schooner history, on July 23, 5 pm, at the Kress Pavilion (kresspavilion.org), 7845 Church St. in Egg Harbor.
The Door County Maritime Museum (DCMM) will curate a one-of-a-kind, standalone exhibit about building schooners and other tall ships, and a schooner model made by William Herbst of the Sturgeon Bay Model Shop will also be on display. Rhys Kuzdas of the DCMM will discuss the schooner Lily Amoit, which sank off of Ellison Bay in 1909.
Guest speaker Peter Hirthe, author of Schooners of Door County; and the Wisconsin Marine Historical Society will also give presentations. To cap off the evening, guests will enjoy sea shanties by Craig Konowalski and Fred (Doc) Heide of Northern Sky Theater.
