More trees, more activities and more fun sum up the return of the Merry-Time Festival of Trees at the Door County Maritime Museum in Sturgeon Bay. Joyously celebrate the holidays by enjoying dozens of beautifully decorated Christmas trees scattered throughout the museum’s galleries.
The festival runs Nov. 12 through Dec. 13 and will feature artificial trees decorated by local organizations and businesses. Beautiful ornaments and special surprises adorn each of these 28 extraordinary trees and wreaths. Visitors may see this holiday extravaganza during regular museum hours of 10 am to 5 pm daily and have the opportunity to enter a raffle in the hopes of winning their favorite tree to take home for Christmas.
Every day is “kid’s day” during the festival, as children accompanied by an adult will receive free admission to the museum with a nominal Cana Island Lighthouse donation. The regular adult admission of $10 will apply during the festival with one free raffle ticket.
Hosts of additional special events begin Nov. 12 at 10 am with a “Merry Make & Take” Holiday Crafting Workshop. Four gifted holiday enthusiasts will showcase their talents and participants will go home with crafts and ideas of their own. Registration is $25. Advanced reservations required.
Nov. 26 is “Merry-Time Fun Kid’s Day” from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm. Children will enjoy the Sea Dogs exhibit, a scavenger hunt, kids story time, crafts, games and much more.
The second highly sought-after family event occurs with the annual appearance by Santa Claus on the tug John Purves, Dec. 3 from 10 am to 1 pm. Join Santa onboard the historic tugboat to share Christmas wishes. Due to the size of the tug, only two adults can accompany each child.
The museum is one of several stops on the inspirational DOOR CANcer Holiday Home Tour. This year the tour includes free admission to the museum to view the Merry-Time Festival of Trees displays. Tickets are $30.
The festival ends Dec. 13 with “Jingle, Jingle, Mix & Mingle.” Festivities include a heavy hors d’oeuvres buffet, live auction, gift basket silent auction and the Merry-Time Festival of Trees raffle drawing. Tickets are $20 for members and $25 for non-members. Advance reservations required.
