Celebrating Our Heritage

On August 10, Nan and Jerry Krause will present a program that will feature the history and culture of the German immigrants. “Celebrating Our German Heritage” will begin at 2 pm in the Vignes Schoolhouse.

History has always been a special interest of the Krauses, both of whom “had excellent history professors in high school and college. We were later motivated to trace our family’s roots. Both of us have a German heritage from Pomerania Province.” Their research resulted in two trips to Germany where the couple connected with family and visited their ancestors’ villages.

The Krause’s interest in history continued when they retired and made Door County their permanent home in 1995. A few years after moving to the peninsula, the Krause’s shared their passion for history by volunteering for Door County Historical Society.

Dressed in authentic period attire, the Krauses will portray German settlers. A lunch featuring traditional German cuisine will be available for purchase and tasting from 1:30 – 3:30 pm. The afternoon’s activities will also include tips on researching German genealogy, games, and demonstrations.

Heritage Village at Big Creek, located at 2041 Michigan Street, Sturgeon Bay, is open daily from 1:30 – 3:30 pm. For more information visit historicalvillage.doorcountyhistoricalsociety.org, find them on Facebook, or contact Dan Olson at 920.421.2332.
