The spring season of the Peninsula Chamber Singers, under the new artistic direction of Merle Colburn, will begin on Monday, March 3, 2008.
Of the new position, Colburn stated, “It is my great honor to have been appointed to be the PCS Artistic Director. I look forward to making beautiful music with all of you.”
Colburn grew up in Central Wisconsin, attended the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point graduating in 1962 with a Bachelor of Music Education Degree with a vocal major and did post graduate work at the Aspen School of Music, Aspen, Colorado. Over the years he taught at a number of schools, including thirty years in the Algoma Schools. During his years in Algoma he co-directed 22 musicals, produced and directed three Madrigal Dinner Concerts and coached numerous small group ensembles. Also, for the last twenty years, he has been the Chancel Choir Director at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Green Bay.
Rehearsals will be every Monday evening at 7 pm at either St Rosalia’s Church in Sister Bay or the United Methodist Church in Sturgeon Bay. Two Saturday morning “Practice/Socials” are from 9 am – noon. The Spring Concerts will be on Saturday, May 17, United Methodist Church, Sturgeon Bay at 7 pm and Sunday, May 18, Door Community Auditorium, Fish Creek at 3 pm
A few selections for the spring concert include: “This Little Light of Mine;” “Medley from ‘Les Miserables’” arr. Lojeski; “Lift Every Voice for Freedom” arr. Hogan; “How Sweet the Sound;” and “Down to the River to Pray” arr. Ellingboe.
