Charles Wickler Joins the Flying Pig Gallery

“Tourists” by Charles Wickler.

Within the artwork of Charles Wickler, the ordered world of art interacts with the free spirit of the living movements and patterns of the natural world.

Wickler, a retired elementary art teacher from Hamilton School District in Sussex, started his cow-in-the-gallery series while he was finishing the requirements for his Master’s Degree in Art from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. The animals in Wickler’s art have been as carefully selected; each of the Holsteins and Guernseys in the work has a real live counterpart.

“The works in this series are done mainly in pastels,” said Wickler. “They are done as collage where the animals, artwork, and the gallery are drawn separately then assembled to create the galleryscape.”

Wickler has exhibited in numerous juried shows throughout the country and is in more than thirty notable collections. He has served on several committees at the Milwaukee Art Museum and has served as president of Wisconsin Painters and Sculptors (now Wisconsin Visual Artists) and Milwaukee Area Teachers of Art.

The Flying Pig Gallery and Greenspace, open 9 am – 6 pm daily, is located at N6975 State Highway 42, Algoma. For more information call 920.487.9902 or email [email protected].
