Lyric Opera of Chicago Singers Return to Door for Annual Concert

Four singers from Lyric Opera of Chicago will return to Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church in Ellison Bay to present a concert at 7 pm on Saturday, May 27.

Desirée Hassler, soprano, Pamela Williams, mezzo soprano, John Concepcion, tenor, and Michael Cavalieri, baritone, will present a range of songs from opera to art songs to American musical theater. Their accompanist will be Judith Jackson, who at one time was their vocal coach in Chicago. To maintain their friendship with her, the group travels to Ellison Bay almost every year to present a concert on Memorial Day weekend.

“These are wonderful musicians,” Jackson said, “and all of them have important careers in their own right as college teachers or performers, individually or with other groups…Desirée and Michael travel with their spouses and four children each. It’s traditional that the youngsters, who range in age from two to 13, join the adults for one number, which always delights the audience.

“The community has embraced this group,” Jackson added. “They not only open their homes to them, but have also formed ongoing friendships. It’s the sort of thing that is so typical of Door County.”

A reception after the concert will feature food and conversations with the singers. The concert is free and open to the public. A goodwill offering will go to the performers. For more information, call the church, 920.854.2988.
