Child Care on Washington Island

Door County is a child care desert, meaning there are at least three times as many children as there are licensed child care slots in the county, according to United Way of Door County. This situation is especially dire on Washington Island, where there are no longer any licensed child care options.

To understand the reality of child care on the island and explore opportunities, United Way of Door County will host a Child Care Listening Session at the Washington Island Community Center on Nov. 5, 1-2:30 pm, as part of a larger initiative to improve accessibility to high-quality, affordable child care in the county.

All Washington Island residents are invited to attend to share their experiences and ideas related to child care. Babysitters will be available to watch children in the gymnasium during the listening session.

Contact Jess Holland, child care community coordinator, to reserve a child care slot at [email protected] or 920.421.3149.
