Chilly Morning for Reopening

On reopening day at the Alpine golf course, Egg Harbor stone carver Jeff Olson tried to sculpt a tee shot around the corner on the eighth hole on the white nine. Joining him for their first round at the course since 2019 were (from left) Jim Hamann, Denny Delorit and (not pictured) Mark Dufeck.

The clubhouse – aka the Alpine Golf Chalet – was bustling on the Friday before Memorial Day as workers put the finishing touches on upgrades to wiring, countertops, flooring, beverage coolers and landscaping, but with temperatures hovering around 46 F, the course wasn’t packed that windy morning.

New things keep popping up at Alpine, such as tee markers and logo balls that note the course is 96 years old.
