Chop “N” Shop Needs Your Help

The Joint Professional Law Enforcement Officers Association is preparing for its 12th annual Chop “N” Shop with a Cop program on Dec. 13. Unfortunately, the group has not met its fundraising goal for this year’s event and would appreciate any donation.

The organization’s goal is to provide the children the opportunity to spend a day with officers in a friendly, relaxed, non-confrontational environment. The program is able to help 30 children and their families during the holiday season. The children are paired up with a law enforcement officer for the day. The day starts out by hunting at a local tree farm for the perfect Christmas tree. Then the children are taken to Target and each child is given $150 to shop for presents for their families. A gift wrapping/pizza party follows the shopping. The families are also given turkey and all the fixings they need to have a healthy holiday family dinner.

“Our program’s success is only made possible with the kind donations we receive from local businesses, organizations, and generous individuals,” said Lt. Tammy Sternard.

Donations may be dropped off or mailed to Door County Sheriff’s Department, attn: Lt. Tammy Sternard at 1203 S. Duluth Ave., Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235. Checks can be made out to Joint Professional Law Enforcement of Door County or JPLA. For more information call 920.746.5660.
