Chop ‘N’ Shop Needs Your Help

The Joint Professional Law Enforcement Officers Association is preparing for its 12th annual Chop ‘N’ Shop with a Cop Program on Dec. 13. Unfortunately, the group has not met fundraising goal for this year’s event and would appreciate any donation you may be willing to give this holiday season.

The organization was established in 2003 and consists of local law enforcement officers. Officers that participate in the organization share the common belief that our children really are the future, and providing them with positive interaction with law enforcement at a young age is a win-win situation for the children, community and law enforcement. For this reason the organization’s goal is to provide the children the opportunity to spend a day with officers in a friendly, relaxed, non-confrontational environment.

This year probably more than any other, there are many families in need of a little help. The program is able to help 30 children and their families during the holiday season.

The children are paired up with a law enforcement officer for the day. The day starts out by hunting at a local tree farm for the perfect Christmas tree. Then the children are taken to Target and each child is given $150 to shop for presents for their families. A gift wrapping/pizza party follows the shopping. The families are also given turkey and all the fixings they need to have a healthy holiday family dinner.

“Our program’s success is only made possible with the kind donations we receive from local businesses, organizations, and generous individuals,” said Lt. Tammy Sternard.

If you’re interested in donating to this event, donations may be dropped off or mailed to Door County Sheriff’s Department, Attn: Lt. Tammy Sternard at 1203 S. Duluth Ave., Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235. Checks can be made out to Joint Professional Law Enforcement of Door County or JPLA. Please feel free to call with any questions at 746.5660.
