“Christmas in July” in Sister Bay

Pipka poses with Santa at the 2008 “Christmas in July.”

Many visitors to Door County do some early Christmas shopping while they’re on vacation. This year, the Village of Sister Bay is making it easier than ever to celebrate an early Christmas with their “Christmas in July” celebration on Saturday, July 25.

The custom began five years ago when Pipka Ulvilden, owner of Pipka’s of Door County, began inviting Santa for a summer visit on July 25. Needless to say, both kids and adults lined up to give Santa their Wish Lists and take pictures for holiday cards. This year, over 30 Sister Bay businesses are participating in the event, with many featuring demonstrations, free drawings for some great prizes, and sales of up to 50 percent off selected merchandise.

If Christmas treats are what you enjoy, there will be many opportunities to snack on Christmas cookies, holiday bread, hot chocolate, and cider.
