An estimated 618,000 people died in the Civil War, more than 12,000 were from the state of Wisconsin and around 200 from Door County. Our own earliest settler, Increase Claflin, sent his own three sons off to war. The encampment will be a sampling of what a camp would be like, military drills, period clothing, medicine demonstration, games, and firing demonstrations will be part of this living history event. The camp will also share day-to-day happenings at a camp, and behind the scenes in a woman’s tent.

Fish Creek Park is located on Highway 42 across from the Peninsula State Park entrance. A donation of $4 for adults and $2 for children is suggested to benefit the Gibraltar Historical Association.

Visitors are also encouraged to visit the Alexander Noble House museum at 4176 Main Street. Ron Dammon of Fish Creek will lead a walking tour of historic buildings at 10 am Saturday. He will tell the history and architecture of churches and hotel buildings along the busy streets of Fish Creek. The tour begins at the Old Town Hall at 4176 Maple Street.
