Classes and Events at Artists Guild

Artists Guild in Sturgeon Bay declares the otherwise quiet month of March a time for exploration and experimentation in art.

“Oil Painting with Lynn Gilchrist” takes place March 2, 9:30 am to 12 pm. Artists will bring their own materials and complete a small still-life painting in oils, learning Gilchrist’s techniques. All skill levels are invited, some painting experience is recommended. The cost is $60 and registration is required by March 1.

This month’s theme for Youth Art Classes is “All About Acrylics,” scheduled for March 9. Students will learn characteristics and techniques of acrylics and create a painting. Sarah Bradley will teach classes at 9:30 – 11 am (5 – 8 years), 12:30 – 2:30 pm (9 – 12) and 3:30 – 5:30 pm (13 – 18). The morning class is $25, and afternoon classes are $30 (including materials); register by March 7.

“Women Artists” is the theme of the monthly Art Speak series, held March 16, 10 am – 12 pm. Jennifer Aldrich will give a power-point presentation about influential women artists in America, with a discussion to follow. This program is free and open to the public.

Artists Guild reminds the public that the current session of Life Drawing Guild runs through March 27. (An extra evening was added due to a snow cancellation.) The non-instructed informal studio meets on Wednesdays from 6:15 – 8:15 pm and costs $20 per single session. Participants bring their own materials and draw from a live model. Discounted prices for high school and college students are available with pre-approval. No registration is necessary.
