Classic Big Band Jazz Sessions Begin at Birch Creek

Classic Big Band Jazz from the thirties and beyond will return to Birch Creek for their Jazz I and Jazz II Sessions, running July 15-25, and July 29-Aug. 8, respectively.

Jeff Campbell, Jazz Program Director, rejoins Birch Creek this year for his 27th season. As Program Director, he brings in the world-class professionals from around the country who teach and perform during the Birch Creek Jazz Sessions.

Throughout the Jazz I and II sessions, 87 young men and 11 young women ranging in age from 13 to 18 will attend Birch Creek as students. Upon their arrival on Birch Creek’s campus, they audition for placement in two big bands and several small combos. The advanced combo, The Ambassadors, under José L. Encarnaci?n and Marty Robinson, performs both public and private events countywide. The Lab Band under Gil Wukitsch and Steve Sveum, and the Studio Band under Jim Stombres and Nic Meyer, open each nightly concert. Student ensembles will perform at Birch Creek and throughout the community over the course of both two-week sessions.

Concert tickets are available for purchase online at birchcreek.org or by phone at 920.868.3763. Prices are $29 for adults, $10 for students, and $6 for children (11 and under).
