Classic and Contemporary Selections for Great Lakes Book Club

Write On, Door County has announced the book list for the 2017-2018 Great Lakes/Great Books book discussion group. This program explores books that have a Great Lakes focus and is presented in collaboration with the Door County Maritime Museum. The free program is presented from 10:30 am to noon on the first Thursday of every month, September through May. Discussions are held in the Bridgewater Room of the Door County Maritime Museum, 120 N. Madison Avenue, Sturgeon Bay.

Books that have any of the Great Lakes as subject matter or setting are considered for the book club. This year’s selections include works of scientific nonfiction, memoir, poetry, mystery, and historical fiction. Titles for this year’s book discussions are The Song of Hiawatha by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (September); Good Seeds: A Menominee Food Memoir by Thomas Pecore Weso (October); The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald by Fredrick Stonehouse (November); The Living Great Lakes by Jerry Dennis (December); A Superior Death by Nevada Barr (January); Lake Invaders: Invasive Species and the Battle for the Future of the Great Lakes by William Rapai (February); Torn in Two by Michael Schumacher (March); Harborless by Cindy Hunter Morgan (April), and Cherry Harvest by Lucy Sanna (May).
